On 22 October, we accompanied clients from Phyathai–Paolo Hospital Group,Thailand to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. Walking through the grounds, we noticed more international visitors than on our previous visits.
People from different places were stopping to watch the same pandas resting in the trees. It prompted a thought: pandas introduce so many people to Chengdu—but what else do they discover once they arrive?
Our itinerary also included Sichuan University’s West China medical school, Chengdu Western Hospital, FAMILY TREE and Shude Medical Hall. Together, these visits offered a closer look at the city and the opportunities for healthcare partnerships here.
Panda: A familiar introduction
Seeing a giant panda is a simple, compelling reason to visit Chengdu.

Spending time in the city also helps visitors form their own impressions. How easy is it to get around? Can they communicate comfortably? What would a longer stay feel like?
These questions matter to people considering a medical consultation or a business partnership, too. An appointment takes place inside a hospital; the experience of travelling abroad extends well beyond it.
Care: Following through locally
In conversations with hospital colleagues, we discussed what can make healthcare in China attractive to overseas clients.

Modern facilities and specialist services are part of the picture. Substantial demand for care also gives teams at major medical centres extensive opportunities to build clinical experience. For an individual enquiry, the useful questions concern the relevant team’s expertise, the records needed and the assessment it can offer.
Our stop at the West China medical school added an opportunity to explore Chengdu’s medical background. At Chengdu Western Hospital, FAMILY TREE and Shude Medical Hall, we held detailed discussions with the institutions’ leadership teams and reached a broad understanding on developing two-way referrals around their respective strengths.
General healthcare, dentistry and Chinese medicine serve different needs. Panda Care helps bring an enquiry to the appropriate provider and carry the conversation forward.
We assist with hospital liaison, preparation of requested documents and language support, together with transport, accommodation and accompaniment in Chengdu. For an overseas partner, having a local team to follow through can make the arrangements easier to manage.
Chinese medicine: Another way to discover the city
Our visit to Shude Medical Hall also highlighted the different interests international visitors may bring.

Some want to learn about medicinal herbs or take part in a herbal sachet workshop. Others want a professional consultation about a particular health concern.
A cultural visit and a clinical appointment serve different purposes. Panda Care helps arrange the appropriate format, with medical services assessed by qualified practitioners in the context of the person’s circumstances and existing treatment.
Language support gives visitors space to ask questions and explain what matters to them.
Global: Building relationships in both directions
China’s visa-free arrangements can make visits easier for eligible travellers. The appropriate arrangements still depend on nationality, purpose and length of stay.
Once travel becomes possible, the work continues: fitting the consultation into the itinerary, receiving the hospital’s response, supporting accompanying family members and establishing a route for further questions.
Our discussions with Chengdu Western Hospital, FAMILY TREE and Shude Medical Hall provide a basis for developing those arrangements. We want two-way referral cooperation to lead to an identifiable next step for each enquiry.

Panda introduces the city.
Care shapes the experience.
Global brings partners together across borders.

The pandas may be the reason for a first visit. We hope Chengdu’s professional resources, cultural experiences and local support give visitors reasons to discover more.
We welcome healthcare organisations, medical travel facilitators and travel partners interested in developing Chengdu services and two-way referral cooperation with Panda Care.
